Tax in Newfoundland, for example, is 15%. Setting your location to somewhere else... like Alberta, you can pay 5% instead. Or, you can just shop for digital codes specifically on: www.gamestop.ca/Digital and just skip the taxes all together since for some reason they don't charge tax at all on digital codes, while other stores do.
$79.99 x 1.05 = $83.99 (Alberta) $79.99 x 1.15 = $91.99 (Newfoundland) $79.99 x 1.00 = $79.99 (GameStop Digital Code)
Tip 02: Digital Collection VS. Physical Collection
By going digital, you can do the following...
- You can Game Share with one trusted friend, and or, family member in the world that allows it by means of making "their" Switch, "Your" main Switch. Allowing them to use their own profile, while you would have the secondary Switch, which will then require that you have internet connection to verify your purchases.
Note: There's a new method called (Digital Game Card Sharing), soon to be available in an April 2025 update, which will allow you to temporarily share your select digital games with one other local user for up to 14 days... But the down side is... you, yourself, won't have access for those said 14 days.
- And you can basically be insured should you ever lose your Switch, or your games for whatever the reason, like if your House catches fire, you lose it on a trip, or someone breaks in... and just steals your stuff.
All you have to do, as long as Nintendo is still around and supporting the servers, is just rebuy a Switch, Micro SD Card, and simply log into your account..., and you're pretty much good to go.
Just might want to give Nintendo a call at (1-800-255-3700) and request them to unlink your original main Switch, to make your new Switch, your main Switch so then it's not your secondary Switch.
By going physical...
- Once it's gone... it's gone - You can share... but then you can't play it until you get it back - You might end up paying a lot more, depending on where you live due to taxes and resellers
Tip 03: Save money on the Nintendo Switch Online service
First of all, I would advise to get the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pass as it has more benefits. And if you can..., team up with someone else who's trustworthy before you do, as you can split the cost 8 ways.
So $13.13 x 8 = the needed $104.99 (CAD).
Note: People who are 13+ can be, (No pun intended) "switched" in and out at anytime. Which is why I say to team up with someone who is trustworthy.
